A White Paper titled
Lamb: Its Place in the U.S. Diet prepared by
Jo Ann S. Carson, PhD, RD, LD, from the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center, and G.G. Hilton and D.L. VanOverbeke,
from Oklahoma State University was presented
at the American Dieticians Association’s
Annual Conference in Philadelphia, Oct. 1-3,
2007.
The White Paper
provides a summary and analysis of current
lamb nutrient composition information and
sources for all available research and data
related to lamb nutrition. It provides
credibility to the nutrition program
recently established by the newly formed
Tri-Lamb Group. The paper is the foundation
for the program and ensures that all
messages are based on the latest research
and sound science.
The Tri-Lamb Group is
a collaborative initiative between United
States, Australia, and New Zealand lamb
producers to enhance demand for lamb in the
United States. The group is currently
working with health professionals and
consumers to increase their awareness of the
nutritional value of lamb and its place in a
healthy American diet.
With the White Paper
completed, the development of communication
tools is in full swing including an
advertisement that will appear in Today’s
Dietician, a comprehensive lamb nutrition
brochure, and on the new lamb nutrition web
site,
www.leanonlamb.com.
